Crazy Times in Mansfield and the Peak District

What a fantastic weekend!

It is always so fun to catch up with old friends and it is even better when it’s like it was just yesterday when you saw them.  My belly still hurts from laughing so much!

On Friday we drove up to Mansfield through the most convoluted route ever.  When we got off the M40, and started zipping along the A43, we started seeing the dreaded ‘diversion’ signs.  No, not diversion in the good way, diversion in the way that means crazy detour is coming your way.  We wound our way through farm fields and through lovely little villages in the pouring rain.  Then we came upon a motorcyclist who had just crashed his bike.  He was sure he was ok but Paul was sure he had dislocated his shoulder.  So we followed him to the next town to make sure he was ok.  Needless to say, what was meant to be a three hour trip suddenly became a six hour trip.  Good thing it was beautiful!

I spent the weekend with Hayley and Gemma and Anna and Sharon reliving camp memories and laughing like crazy.  We took a trip to Sherwood Forest to see the Major Oak.  We had a lovely walk and the dogs had a blast chasing their ball.

We then went to Hayley’s sister’s farm shop to pick up dinner.  It was neat to go to the farm shop and Hayley’s niece Charlotte showed us around the farm.

Doogster!

moo!

The wheat is ready - just waiting for the fields to dry up.

The lovely Charlotte

Of course, I had to take a picture of the Jemima Puddleducks!
And man do I miss horses!!!

I’m still kicking myself for not stopping to take pictures of the gorgeous fields of wild poppies though! We also went to Tesco where I got about a million different flavors of crisps. Um, hello Monster Munch, nice to meet you!

That night we had a major feed- farm lamb chops with mint, lamb kebabs and lovely chicken breasts. I’m still full!  I feel so blessed to have such fabulous friends!  There was a lot of celebrating to be done too! Anna got a 1st on her A Levels! So we ate and celebrated.
Congrats Rexic!

Fantastic Fresh Farm Feed

The next morning(ish…) Paul and I headed to the Peak District for a hike before we headed back to Bournemouth.  Thanks to Shazza’s husband, we had a map and a clue of where to go!  We drove to Baslow which is close to Chatsworth House (Pemberley in the most recent Pride and Prejudice remake for those of you who need a visual).  We walked through the village and then hiked up a hill to Baslow Edge which was very beautiful.  There was lots of heather and sheep. I’d love to go back here for some more exploring at some time in this lifetime!

Traffic was a bit of a nightmare but the drive was beautiful!  The little towns and villages were gorgeous and I’ve started a list of places I’d love to go back to (Baslow,Hathersage and Matlock Bath are on there). After my whirlwind tour of the north, we finally made it back to Bournemouth just before 9pm but not before we stopped at the chippy for my first proper, wrapped in paper fish and chips. Lovely!
Mmmm fish and chips and a potato onion fryit!

Today we head to Stansted for our early morning flight to Greece in the morning.  I have my fingers MAJORLY crossed that I am going to be allowed to go.  I am now seriously kicking myself for not renewing my passport before I came.  Greece requires that you have three months on your passport to enter the country if you are a non-EU citizen.  I have 2 months and 30 days. Yeah.  Awesome.  Soooooooo, send some good thoughts that the Greek government is feeling generous.

I won’t be online for the next week I’m assuming so look for a major post when I get back next week when I get back!
